Sandals resorts sit on seven Caribbean islands: Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Antigua, the Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada, and Curacao. Choosing the island is the single biggest decision you will make, because it sets your flight length, your scenery, and the personality of the whole trip. Here is how I describe each one to my couples.

Jamaica has the most Sandals resorts and, in my experience, the best variety and value. Whether you want lively or laid-back, there is a Jamaica resort that fits, and the range of price points is the widest of any island.

Saint Lucia is the most dramatic and romantic of them all. The Piton mountain views are unlike anything else in the Caribbean, and this is one of the islands where you can book a true over-water bungalow. When quiet romance and jaw-dropping scenery are the goal, Saint Lucia is usually my first suggestion.

Antigua is known for its beaches, and it delivers. If long, soft stretches of sand are what you picture when you close your eyes, Antigua earns a hard look.

The Bahamas is the quickest flight from the United States, which makes it ideal for a shorter getaway or a first Sandals trip where you do not want to lose a whole day to travel.

Barbados brings a polished, easygoing island feel with plenty to explore beyond the resort gates.

Grenada and Curacao are the quieter, newer additions. If you want something a little further off the beaten path, and Grenada even offers over-water bungalows, these two are worth a conversation.

What is actually included

Sandals is luxury all-inclusive in the real sense of the phrase. Your rate covers gourmet dining across many restaurants, premium drinks, watersports including scuba diving for certified divers, all your tips, and your airport transfers. You are not nickel-and-dimed once you land. By what you want from the trip: adventure and activity, quiet romance, or top-tier luxury with a personal butler. The honest best resort for you is the one that matches your answer, not the one with the flashiest photo.
